It's 480x480 for NTSC or PAL M (Brazilian PAL) and 480x576 for normal
PAL. It's MPEG2, it can be 16:9 as well as 4:3 AFAIK, and the Audio
codec is MP2 (mono, stereo or joint stereo). The combined bitrate may
not be higher than 2x normal CD speed, i.e. 2822 kbps. Usual is 2500
kbps video + 224 kbps audio, as some bitrate is consumed by the muxing.
You need a special muxing process, mplex from the mjpeg_play package can
do it with parameter -f 4 I IIRC. Then write the image with e.g. GNU
vcdimager.
