I downloaded, compiled and installed the current CVS snapshot (20030118) and
libavcodec from CVS. When doingn a one-pass encoding mencoder still gives me
that same message after encoding:

[ tons of duplicate frame(s) messages ... ]
Video stream: 1502.579 kbit/s (187822 bps) size: 1065257934 bytes 5671.624
secs 169990 frames
Audio stream: 115.918 kbit/s (14489 bps) size: 82187760 bytes 5672.112
secs

I get the new line "demux_mpg: 3:2 TELECINE detected, enabling inverse
telecine fx. FPS changed to 23.976!" at the start of the encoding process.

The resulting avi file still has no index and the audio is still lagging
behind. Interestingly if I do not give mencoder the -ofps 23.976 switch I get
exactly the same result. I will try a full-blown three-pass encoding next...
Maybe that does the job (though I doubt it).
