[MPlayer-users] No subs when sound unavailable

I noticed that if mplayer is unable to open the audio device (in my
case /dev/dsp) because it is busy, it also will not display any
subtitles (in my case, I have an SRT-file along with the movie; and the
subtitles are indeed displayed correctly if mplayer also is able to
get hold of the audio device). Is this intentional?

I'm using CVS-030102-11:29-2.95.4.
