Tried -vop scale, no effect. I still get lot of errors
"illegal dc vlc" from mencoder (and mplayer works fine).
More complete log of error messages is shown below.
The AVI was created with
mencoder -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 foreman-yuv.avi -o \
foreman-ffmpeg4.avi

This is Debian 3.0, AMD Athlon 800 MHz, gcc version 2.95.4 20011002 (Debian
prerelease), Mplayer 0.90-0.90rc2 (but 0.90pre8 works similarly too).

With other decoders (e.g. mencoder -vc odivx) there isn't any problem.
