line 1263 of vo_fbdev.c is:

printf(FBDEV "ioctl FBIOGET_VSCREENINFO: %s\n",strerror(errno));

for me (==cvs). so no free() call there...

could you check if its' teh same for you?
maybe you have different/modified/pacthes version?

there is am ugly patch at dev-eng :
