Did you reconfigure/recompile mplayer after you changed the mainrboard/cpu? 
Also, I have the same mainboard but with an 1800+ cpu and I have experienced 
a number of memory related problems. Using a single 512MB pc133 memory module 
I would get random segfaults in various programs (even though the memory 
tested good with simmtester). With 2 256MB pc133 memory modules I would 
experience random lockups (again the memory tested fine with simmtester). 
I've finally settled on a single 256MB pc133 memory module and I've not had a 
single lockup / segfault since. And yes, this is all with the latest BIOS.
