Try -vop expand=0:0:0:0:1 to render subtitles in software rather than
using the dxr3's subpic device. Of course if you're playing mpeg1/2
files with passthru this will make things a lot slower since it will
require reencoding, but if you're just playing mpeg4 files it should
be fine.
