I did and that worked.
I guess I am lucky that 720x576 worked.
The background of all this is that I am using an SGI O2,
which has excellent A/V capture hardware, to record analog
video.
The only two resolutions this hardware supports are 768x576
and 720x576 (plus half and quarter that size).

With 720x576 I still get very good quality and I do not
even have to rescale the digital data.
