For RedHat try the rpm-s at http://www.astral.ro/~cata/mplayer/
The binary and devel ones (faad2 and libsndfile) are enough if you don't 
want to compile them.
After it check MPlayer's ./configure output for faad support and 
recompile the whole thing.
For me it's working (RH 8.0)
