[MPlayer-users] Choppiness when starting not from an interactive terminal (e.g. lirc)

Hi,

I am seeing a dramatic difference when starting MPlayer from an
interactive shell vs when starting it from lirc.  That is, when
I start mplayer from an xterm, playback is excellent.  If I
ssh into the box, and start mplayer in that shell, playback is
also excellent.  Now I want to control mplayer with lirc.  I
find mplayer's lirc support lacking flexibility, so I just start
various shell scripts from irexec (i.e., prog=irexec).  Much
to my surprise, mplayer gets really really slow when started
that way!  Anyone has any clue why this could be?
