hi all,
i built a standalone-player with a 500mhz amd k6-2, redhat 8.0 and
mplayer of course, running on the framebuffer at 640x480 (for dvds i use
a different player, so this res is just fine).
first i tried a tnt2-card (elsa erazor3), because it has a good tv-out,
but cpu-usage was dangerously high. fullscreen here worked fine but i
had to use -vop scale=640:-2 -fs wich made the movie jerky sometimes
related to cpu-usage while rescaling, so i switched to an ati mach64,
wich i had also left over.
with the ati i can use vidix, but i can't manage to get a proper
fullscreen with -fs. it scales every movie to fill the sides but
positiones the image top-orientated and at the bottom it leaves the
console visible. trying different options in the mplayer.conf didn't
help. any suggestions?
well, the major issue comes now and i was wondering if anybody has
experienced this as well:
on both cards the picture sometimes lookes as if the lower half of it
would be belonging to the last frame, while the upper was already
advancing to the next. this gives ugly flashy cuts in the middle of the
picture.
i can only explain this to myself as a movie/monitor timing-problem, but
with the tnt2 my tv-out should force the fbdevice to give out 50 hz,
since its activated at boot time and has a pal tv connected, so 25fps
pal should be displayed correctly. with my ati-card i simply don't know
where to adjust the monitor-timing :(
are there any recommodations for graphic-cards with vidix-support that
work _proven_ flawlessly on the framebuffer-device? i guess it would be
worth getting one of these..
regards..
/jc
