[MPlayer-users] mencoder crash with pre9

Firstly, I apologize if I have sent this message twice, I tried to send it before but I believe I entered the mplayer-users
address incorrectly.

I have been trying to encode a dvd with:
mencoder -dvd 4 -dvd-device /dev/sr0 -alang ja -vop crop=658:422:32:30,scale -xy 480 -ovc lavc -lavcopts \
vcodec=mpeg4:vmax_b_frames=2:vhq:keyint=300:ildct:vbitrate=1024:vb_strategy=1:vpass=1:lumi_mask=0.2 -sws 7 -ssf \
lgb=0.6 -oac copy -o jinroh.avi -ofps 23.976

And it fails with:

mencoder: ratecontrol.c:635: ff_rate_estimate_qscale: Assertion `q>0.0' failed.
Aborted

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug with mplayer, libavcodec, or the dvd?
My computer's running Debian unstable with gcc 2.95.4 and libc 2.2.5 on kernel 2.4.18 (stock) on an
Athlon XP 1700.
