[MPlayer-users] Hang-ups during playback...

I just upgraded my roommate's machine to an Athlon 650 from a P2-333,
and all seemed to be working well. But there is now a strange issue
with mplayer. Whenever there's a lot of corrections going on, or
whenever you seek within a movie, the system stops responding for a
seemingly random amount of time. The clock on the taskbar stops, the
LCDProc monitor's heartbeat indicator freezes, and there's a
high-pitched whine coming from the speakers. After a 3-15 seconds,
playback resumes. It only happens when there's sound playing. I can't
figure out what's causing this. Neither XMMS nor Xine doesn't have this
issue, though.

I've been unable to reproduce this on any machine but his. The specs
are as follows:
Gentoo Linux 1.2 (compilations flags were for general i686
optimizations)
Abit KA7 w/ Athlon 650, 256M PC100
Sound Blaster 16 PCI via es1371 oss driver
Leadtek Winfast GF2Pro
Promise ATA100 card
Adaptec 152X scsi card

I've tried recompiling the kernel a couple different ways, recompiling
MPlayer, and SDL. I've looked around on the message boards and docs, but
haven't seen anything like this. Has anyone run into this kind of issue
before?
