[MPlayer-users] Re: mencoder, libavcodec and b-frames (me too!)

I'm using Linux Red Hat 7.3 and I'm experiencing
exactly the same problem
reported by other users. The last version not affected
by the bug is MEncoder
0.90-pre7. Afther 0.90-pre7, ALL versions, stable and
CVS are affected.
I've done several tests with different divx files and
executables compiled
with 2 different compilers (gcc 2.9six and 2.95.4).
The result is that the
option "vmax_b_frames" causes Mencoder to stop with
"Segmentation fault"
error (without any additional messages) few seconds
after the beginning of
the 2nd pass. I've tried adding and removing options
but the behaviour is
clear.

- Sound: ok
mencoder -oac copy -ovc frameno -o frameno.avi
test.avi

- First pass: ok
mencoder -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=610:
vqmin=2:vqmax=10:vmax_b_frames=2:vb_strategy=1:vme=4:vpass=1
-o /dev/null
test.avi

- Second pass: crash
mencoder -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=610:
vqmin=2:vqmax=10:vmax_b_frames=2:vb_strategy=1:vme=4:vpass=2
-o crashtest.avi
test.avi

Incredibly, after removing vmax_b_frames option
Mencoder works fine.

Hope this helps to track the bug.

Bye
