[MPlayer-users] dropped frames/jerky playback

OK, in previous post, mplayer couldn't open/init audio device when I
started her with -ao arts, even though artsd was running. Today I
rebooted the computer, and mplayer does open audio device. I don't know
what has changed, but that's OK. She is working.

However, the playback is jerky. Benchmark says mplayer with -ao arts and
-vo gl2 is using ~55% of the system. (I tried xv, and x11 and they
10-15% more of system). Is it reasonable to expect smooth playback and
no dropped frames? Where should I be looking to improve playback?
