Banshee is supported by the tdfxfb.o in 2.4 kernels, AFAIK...
So i assume MPlayer's vo_tdfxfb will support it.
I'd imagine using
mplayer -vc ffdvix -vop yuy2 -dr -vo tdfxfb file.avi 
might  be fast enough without framedrop....
well maybe... try it!
