Their web site says they are involved in creating a DVD watermark protection system to replace CSS. What you found might be a demonstration to show the movie companies that the watermark system works on production DVDs.

Yes I know who they are, but I thought they just screwed with the
color burst on NTSC outputs on VHS.
Anyhow, I took the DVD out, blew on it a couple times and tried again
and it worked. Weird how they were able to bury the message like that
though.
