Don't be too hard on him. Sure it was in the FAQ... but did you know
that older 2.4 kernels don't seem to require the hdparm setting. I first
started using hdparm and MPlayer with 2.4.9 and it didn't make a
difference so I removed it. Then 2.4.18 came along and now you really
need it!
