Don't want to start another religious war here - but tc works nicely
next to mplayer, either compiled from source or precompiled versions.
If you messed up your libraries then you've just not been careful. tc
is definitely not shit.

(Neither is mencoder. Both are very good and have their strong and weak
points.)
