[MPlayer-users] mencoder 3-pass question

My question is about 3-pass encoding.

Well, when I do the second pass (first video pass) can I set /dev/null as out
file or the file is used in thirth pass (second video pass).

Something like this:
mencoder -ovc frameno -o frameno.avi infile.avi
mencoder -oac copy -ovc divx4 -pass 1 -o /dev/null infile.avi
mencoder -oac copy -ovc divx4 -pass 2 -o outfile.avi infile.avi
