[MPlayer-users] mplayer says I am dropping frames but I am not

It's very strange. I am using up-to-minute CVS update of mplayer. I
have seen this problem for a while though. Mplayer will chug along
fine playing a video and then all of a sudden, the dropped frame
counter will just count up and never stop. I could not be dropping as
many frames as mplayer thinks I am as the video looks very good still.
For example (frame dropping starts about 1040 lines down and continues
until the end):

Notice once it starts saying it's dropping frames, it drops one for
every status line printed. This alone seems suspicious. I mean if I
were dropping frames, would I really drop 1 and 1 only per status line
printed, and continue to drop exactly 1 per status line printed until
the end of the file? It just seems to "tidy" to be true.
Ideas?
