[MPlayer-users] How to update/refresh codecs.conf?

i think you should be more specific, but if i understand you correctly,
you installed mplayer from precompiled binary package, right?

if so, i suggest you to remove it, and download the sources, binary
codecs(win32,...) and compile it....

./configure --help will help you a lot!

cd <mplayer_source_dir>
so ./configure;make ; <be_root> make install;

and there is a README file in mplayer_source_dir, which will help you a
lot, if you are a newbie!
