[MPlayer-users] sluggish dvd playback...(faq suggestions don't help)

/dev/cdrom is a symbolic link

ls -l /dev/cdrom probably shows:

# ls -l /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            3 Oct 23 19:39 /dev/cdrom -> hdb

now, try hdparm with hdb or what your symbolic link points
