hey,
my dvd playback is really sluggish. turning on dma using the instructions in
the faq didn't work, here is the output:

[root at semaphore MPlayer-0.90rc1]# hdparm -d1 -a8 -u1 /dev/cdrom
/dev/cdrom:
 setting fs readahead to 8
 setting unmaskirq to 1 (on)
 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)
 readahead    =  8 (on)

here is the output when i try to play a dvd (notice i'm also using the cache
option):
[root at semaphore MPlayer-0.90rc1]# mplayer -dvd 1 -dvd-device /dev/cdrom -cache
2048
