The current lame ebuild (I installed mine Dec 13) caused spontaneous segfaults in mencoder for me. REmoving it and building lame myself fixed the problem. So, if you use Gentoo and are having strange segfaults in mencoder, try building libmp3lame.so yourself. Felix
