I have ALSA 0.9-rc6 + a Creative SB-Live! Value here.

When I try like this:

mplayer -ao alsa9:surround51 my.avi

The sound doesn't work:

alsa-init: testing and bugreports are welcome.
alsa-init: requested format: 48000 Hz, 2 channels, Signed 16-bit 
(Little-Endian)
alsa-init: soundcard set to surround51
alsa-init: unable to set channels: Invalid argument
couldn't open/init audio device -> no sound
Audio: no sound!!!
