[MPlayer-users] Vobsub subtitle positioning for 4:3 material

Hi All,

I am using mplayer/mencoder 0.9pre10 with Vobsub subtitles. They display
fine but they are not near the edge of the frame and sometimes get in
the way of the action ( cover heads & lips of actors on close-ups ). I
have tried adding the -subpos <#> switch with no change in position. I
suspect that if this actually worked, it would only raise or lower the
subs anyway. I have also tried the -vop expand <w:h:x:y:o> switch but it
makes the monitor display region of the movie smaller and the subs look
large compared to the movie image. In the Windows version of Vobsub ( I
want to make multi-platform compatable encodes ), these adjustments are
found in the .idx file ( I tried using the -vobsub <file name> switch
also to call these switches).

Anyone know of a patch to allow the switches in a Win generated Vobsub
.idx to be used for subtitle scaling and position?

Here is a snippet of a Win generated Vobsub .idx file that
describes/shows the settings allowed by Vobsub:

# Origional frame size
size 720x480

# Origin ( x,y ), relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded
by alignment.
org: 0, 48

# Image scaling ( hor, ver ), origin is at the upper-left corner or at
the alignment coord ( x,y )
scale: 100%, 100%

Thanks,

John
