It is possible. Maybe you think we are lots of people and
we are working on mplayer code 24h of a day.
I must say: No.
Core team is only a few people (see docs), and we are very busy
with school or commercial work (yes, we should earn money to
be able to buy food & cola which is required input for development)
And also we aren't perfect yet, so we need some sleeping too.
Let's see, what is left. Only a few hours per day is for mplayer.
Now include the mailing lists and private mails, you know, that
RTFMing and so on. It eats another 2-3 hours per day.
What left? near nothing. And we has a very long TODO list!
For example, there are many uploaded buggy files on FTP, waiting
for me to check, but I'm busy with Gui integration, mphq server
administration, mailing list RTFMing and administration, libvo2
design, DVB card support and testing, and so on...
If you want to help, you are welcomed. If you just want to say
we are shit, just go away, along with frech friends who say
we aren't patient and polite enough. (but are still subscribed...)

If you know so well, why don't you make a patch???
Btw it's -dev-eng topic, but I'll answer here, now, just for you, poor man:
yes, partially you're right. it can be implemented wihtout touching libvo,
but every field will be blitted 2 times(!) to the video memory, eating 2
times more cpu. vo should have a flag to indicate it's interlaced field, and
blit only every second line.
do you have an idea to solve this without libvo modifications and
double-blitting? i want to hear it then.
btw it has nothing with postprocess.
(and that "somebody" is me)

SDL is work of Atmosfear (Felix B.), he will check it
and accept or refuse your patch. I don't know why didn't
he answered yet, but I didn't see him on IRC for a week,
maybe he is busy or is at holiday.
Anyway, the patch seems to be messy for me, at first look.
Maybe it isn't true, I don't know the details of sdl, nor
the aspect ration stuff. It wasn't my work.

Resend this one, I don't remember seeing such patch.
Maybe you just didn't posted it to -dev-eng, as written in docs...
