[MPlayer-users] Downgraded gcc on RH7.1 - still having problems with configure

Yes, I'm a new user... Yes, I run Redhat... YES, I
read the DOCS ;-).

Anyways, I uninstalled the Redhat gcc and the other
gcc goodies. I then downloaded and installed
gcc-2.95.3-29.i386.rpm and gcc-c++-2.95.3-29.i386.rpm.
 Now when I run configure it gets much farther, but
then it quits stating that c++ support is not
installed/configured. (Don't have the actual error in
front of me.) This is probably a mind numbingly
simple problem for most of you, but I can't figure it
out...  What am I overlooking?

If some of you wonder why I'm running RH it's because
I have it set up the way I like it... However, I have
been tempted to switch to slack lately ;-)...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
