Since mplayer runs on sparc/mips/etc etc, and with very wide array of
possible outputs, this means there is and will be even more data that is
irrelevant and useless for user with mplayer in hand.

hmmm...
mplayer is seriously underdocumented!
look:
eyck at ghost:~$ man ls|wc -l
198
eyck at ghost:~$ man mplayer|wc -l
584
binary is 20times as big as ls, and manual is only 3times larger?
Hmm, but mplayer having manpage at all is really great thing,
first every app had manual, then people switched to info ( i hated that
until pinfo kicked in ), now projects started providing html
documentation.
Hope this trend won't continue.
