Nope.  Remember that "speed" can mean small latency and big throughput.
Rambus has big throughput but abysmal latency compared to SDRAM.

Latency is more important for x86, where the lack of registers means you
have to have more variables in memory.  And that's why Rambus boxen are
slower in normal work.
