I was under the impression that encoding dvd's straight from the dvd drive
can cause undue stress on your dvd drive thus causing a shorter life span
due to the slow reading process (where a normal dvd plays for around 1.5
hours and the encoding process takes my machine 6 hours). Whats the
validity of this, is there a chance of damage to the dvd drive when using
mencoder to rip directly from the dvd drive ?
