It's the Question that drives us, Misu Moldovan :

The ISO font files on the download page contain multiple sized fonts,
just ln -s ~/.mplayer/arial-14 ~/.mplayer/font or so.

AFAIK aviplay doesn't display onto the movie at all, instead displays
under it using qt.. But that was 0.53 they may have enhanced after all :)
