  dvdview by Dirk Farin (C++)
  libmpeg2 by Aaron Holtzman & Walken (C+asm, very fast)
  ffmpeg/libavcodec by Gerard Lantau (C+asm, fast)

encoders:
  libmpeg3
  iso mpeg2 code?
