it must be tested before it's accepted. i can do it at today night, at home.
(or maybe Felix or other developer with CVS access do it sooner)

btw it patches ./configure _back_ to buggy $TAB thing, and do something
with debian/ too.

if you are really interested in debian/ maintaining, then i'll add
cvs write access to you. it's simpler than making patches.
