It was a cvs version after the last realease but before the release
of the new alsa drivers (0.5.11).
Just checked again: it doesn't work anymore with the cvs version.
It plays just slowly (same effect as i descriped some hours ago
on mplayer-dev).
Seems like i'm not up to date with the last changes in the code, 
thought there weren't great changes in the audio path.

But it works with IdegCounter.
The parameters i used were:

esd -public -tcp -trust 
to start the esd on the one machine and
esddsp -s <host> mplayer <file> 
on the other.

Maybe it could depend on the -alsa or -noalsa option, but
it doesn't have any effect for me

I'm not sure, but i think there is something broken in the audio
code. Need to check that.
