Statement of the day: 

                BOYS, YOU ARE SO F****** GREAT! 

Current CVS of mplayer compiles out-of-the-box on SUN Solaris (SPARC)
(./configure; gmake). After copying codecs.conf to $HOME/.mplayer 
(btw, it could do this automatically, if there is no such file) it plays 
MPEG (no sound) and after I removed win32-DLLs from codecs.conf it also plays 
DivX-AVI (no sound) using libavcodec. Then I added  -ao sun  to the config
and I got sound! I really did! 

Wow... I'm not used to software working that well...
