I'm using another solution: I turned the screensaver off in the KDE
control center and then I created a file ~/.kde/Autostart/screensaver
that reads
--------------------------
#! /bin/sh
xset s on
--------------------------
So I'm using the plain X method of handling the screensaver with KDE2.
