I just checked that. Although it works merilly on all the machines i've
tested it, I saw the same effect on some fresh machine. It has something
to do with debconf, which I don't understand yet.

As a temporary fix - rm debian/postinst
and then rerun debian/rules binary

It's not that important, it only creates global
/etc/mplayer.conf.(postinst)
