mplayer prints video bitrate at playback. and i played back your uploaded 4mb avi

VIDEO:  [divx]  720x480  24bpp  29.97 fps  813.8 kbps (99.3 kbyte/s)

813 (~800) kbps is too small for 720x480/30fps
(it's enough for ~ 640x352x25fps)
