Are you sure you have iso-8859-2 subtitles? cp1250 is very common.
Solutions:
-- convert subtitles to iso (with iconv)
-- generate font for cp1250
-- generate unicode font for latin2 charset with subfont-c and use 
-subcp cp1250 option of CVS mplayer
