I never found this at all...
In fact, I found the opposite. When I compiled with SDL, it would drop
frames and go out of sync, but if I used -vo x11 it would play perfectly
fine.  However, if I use -vo sdl:x11 it is perfectly smooth.  Go
figure...

I only have one comment and its not a slam or anything like that. I too
used 
to use x11 for my viewing option. Then I compiled mplayer with sdl. SDL
is 
better by far in quality and scalability. Just a recommendation for you,

instead of x11.
