well it's not supposed to work with png :)

the new (0.4) version is uploaded in incoming. it is supposed to fail to
compile if you have no gtk-perl. also it checks for the hsi raw plugin and
saves directly with it (even if you say 'blah.png').

as for the font - you can select which font you want, that's the whole point
to having a gimp plugin :) obviously the 'arial' font that matched the XLFD
first in your setup is a bitmap font.
