This SPDIF output is only TTL  but  this can be connected a standard toslink 
transmitter.

this spdif-outpout (consumer format AES3) can only be muted (convergence 
driver seems to support this) but there is no volume control. You have to do 
this via an external amplifier. This "toslink method" is quite popular when 
using mini-mainboards with only one PCI slot and your sound-on-board does not 
support spdif-in/out.
