Hi,
i tried with "-vop lavc,expand..."
and it works.
...but the playback gets jumpy (probably due to 29.97->25 fps conversion). Not too bad, one can still view. But without "lavc" it plays just fine. 
Under these circumstances i'd rather stay without osd and have a smooth replay.
Is it pausible the cvs-version will do better?
