Maybe there are some people - like me - dreaming of only one multimedia tool for the common tasks.
And why not? MPlayer is great ( I like you mplayer-developers :o) ). If you'd include DVB-tuning-API
a lot of people will be happy (e.g. DVB2DivX ...)

MPlayer has developed to a common conversion tool (even client-server apps are possible with RTP
- a RTP-server in Mplayer would would be great !!! - Think about client-server based tv and radio applications
or streaming DVD over network ...).
And the slave-option makes it usable as engine for a simple gui. The more input/output plug-ins are included
the more mplayer will become a standard core in proprietary programs.

But I I heard something of a XFree-patch the Metzler Bros. have sent to the XFree developers to use XV
with the V4L-API of the Convergence-DVB-driver. Maybe it will be included in the next XFree-versions.
