I believe, that Klaus had the same problem.
He defines more windows, each with 4 colors, so you can use more
than 4 colors for the whole osd display.

BTW.:

I've seen, that there is support for AC3 and hardware decoder.
It's only implemented for a soundblaster card.

I've tried to write a codec, where you can define a player like
ac3play, or ac3dec and pipe it to stdin. With this codec we are hardware
independed ...
I had to give up, because I'am not a developer. :(
