the html manual uses a different hyphen/dash than what most keyboards
output. this means if you search for -quiet , most web browsers
fail to find such text on the page.

http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html
hit ctrl+f and enter -quiet.
