True enough. I suppose part of my problem is with on-the-fly changes -
since I think of them in terms of "sed file > file" (or even "cat file |
sed > file"), rather than "sed -i file". I'm not sure what behaviour
would result, but since I've had other programs wind up in an
endless-until-the-drive-fills-up loop doing things like that, I'm
somewhat leery of the whole idea.

(And, for the little it's worth, I don't like putting more load on the
CVS server than I need to.)

It wasn't till I looked at the sed man page (for mostly unrelated
reasons) that I figured out what you probably meant by this - and yes,
"-i=.bak" or similar would be considerably better than what I'd
suggested. Guess I've learned a few things today. ^_^
