	Le Multimédia est un
	<a href="http://wiki.ffii.org/Mpegla05En">champ de mines en termes de brevets</a>.
	Tous les formats, techniques et standards sont couverts par des
	brevets larges et triviaux, qui freinent le progrès et rendent les
	implémentations indépendantes difficiles ou impossibles. Par conséquent
	MPlayer et les autres lecteurs libres de contenus multimédia, comme
	<a href="http://xinehq.de/">xine</a>,
	<a href="http://videolan.org/vlc/">VLC</a>,
	<a href="http://avifile.sf.net/">avifile</a>,
	<a href="http://gstreamer.net/">gstreamer</a>
	et en particulier <a href="http://ffmpeg.org/">FFmpeg</a>, qui fournit
	la structure que tous les lecteurs susnommés utilisent, sont sérieusement
	menacés par les brevets logiciels. Déjà, des compagnies parviennent à
	éradiquer des librairies multimédia par
	<a href="http://videolan.org/libdca.html">des menaces légales</a>.

<p>
	Le Conseil de l'Europe a adopté ce qu'il appelle sa "Position
	Commune" sur les Brevets Logiciels,
	<a href="http://wiki.ffii.org/Cons050307En"> dans l'irrespect des règles et procédures démocratiques</a>
	pour le seul bénéfice de grandes multinationales (pour l'essentiel
	non-européennes) et de l'Irlande et au détriment des petites et
	moyennes entreprises (qui représentent l'essentiel de l'industrie
	européenne du logiciel) et du logiciel libre.
</p>

<p>
	Si le Parlement Européen ne parvient pas à rallier une majorité
	absolue (367) de l'ensemble des membres du Parlement Européen - et
	non simplement la majorité absolue des membres présents - en faveur
	d'amendements substanciels en Juillet, alors la directive du Conseil
	Européen prendra force de loi et la saison de chasse à l'
	"application des brevets logiciels à l'américaine" sera ouverte en
	Europe. Une telle majorité est difficile à atteindre dans un
	Parlement qui souffre d'un faible taux de présence.
</p>

<p>
	Mais tout n'est pas perdu, du moment que <strong>vous</strong>
	décidez qu'il est temps de faire la différence et de prendre des
	mesures. C'est notre dernière chance de barrer la route aux brevets
	logiciels à l'échelle planétaire, il n'y aura pas de seconde chance
	dans le futur prévisible.
</p>

<p>
	<a href="http://petition.eurolinux.org">Signer des pétitions</a> ne
	sera pas suffisant. Contactez vos représentants auprès de l'Union
	Européenne locaux et expliquez leur pourquoi
	<a href="http://lpf.ai.mit.edu/Patents/industry-at-risk.html"> les brevets logiciels sont une mauvaise idée à l'origine</a>
	et pourquoi ils <strong>doivent</strong> assister à cette session
	au Parlement afin de voter contre. Montrez leur qu'il leur faut
	mettre un point d'arrêt aux
	<a href="http://wiki.ffii.org/LtrFfiiCons050308En">machinations du Conseil de l'Union</a>
	et réaffirmer la puissance du Parlement de l'UE, la seule institution
	démocratiquement élue de l'UE.  Pour une information approfondie et des
